Møn Unesco Biosphere
Møn is Denmark's first UNESCO biosphere reserve and the Nordic region's first Dark Sky Park.
Hvidegaard Møn is an official ambassador for Møn UNESCO Biosphere & Dark Sky Park.
Standing at the top of Møns Klint — 128 metres above sea level — you are literally standing on the foundation of Denmark. These dramatic white cliffs reveal the country’s unique geological base, formed from ancient chalk deposits over millions of years.
Møns Klint is a powerful reminder of the natural forces that have shaped Denmark, creating not only its landscape but also supporting the rich and diverse plant and animal life found in this area today.
The surrounding region is part of the Møn UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, recognised for its exceptional natural value. UNESCO biosphere reserves are home to rare and protected species, carefully preserved as part of both national and international conservation efforts.
Within this unique biosphere area, covering around 450 square kilometres, you can experience a remarkable variety of Danish nature — both on land and in the sea. From the cliffs of Møns Klint to the peaceful Nyord meadows, and across the Baltic Sea’s small bays and natural fjords, the landscape is both diverse and unspoiled.
And Dark Sky…
As night falls, Møn also reveals another natural wonder. With minimal light pollution, the island offers some of the best stargazing conditions in Northern Europe. On clear nights, you can see visible planets, the Milky Way stretching across the sky — and if you are lucky the Northern lights - it’s a truly unforgettable experience.
